BIOGRAPHIES

Mike DePaolis, OD
    A graduate of Pennsylvania College of Optometry, and in private group practice in Rochester, New York.  He serves as an adjunct faculty member at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and is a Clinical Associate at the University of Rochester School of Medicine.   A Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, and Editor of Primary Care Optometry News, he frequently serves as a clinical investigator in the disciplines of contact lenses and anterior segment care.  An author of over 75 articles, papers, and textbook chapters, he has lectured at more than 300 eyecare meetings.

Gary Gerber OD
     Dr. Gerber has spoken at most major ophthalmic meetings including Vision Expo, SECO, EyeQuest  and many state and local optometric society meetings.  He has also lectured to optometric educators and optometry students in Canada and the United States.

Albert M Morier, OD
    Al is an
Instructor in Clinical Ophthalmology at the Albany Medical College, Dept. Of Ophthalmology, and a nationally recognized expert on dry eye and punctal occlusion.  He is also presently Low Vision Consultant to the Central Office of the Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped, and Chairs the Low Vision Committee, New York State Optometric Association.

Gary Oliver, OD
    Dr. Oliver has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally on ocular disease diagnosis and treatment, ocular pharmacology, and primary eye care. He is currently the Executive Director for the TLC Laser Eye Center in Plymouth Meeting, PA. Formerly, he was the Chief of the Ocular Disease and Special Testing Service at the State University of New York State College of Optometry. His previous positions also included serving as the Chief of Eye
Care for a large managed care medical practice in Tallahassee, Florida and a Staff Optometrist at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Oliver is a 1979 graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and continued his training in a Hospital Based Residency in Optometry with the Veterans Administration and the University of Alabama in Birmingham School of Optometry. He holds adjunct faculty appointments at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and the State University of New York State College of Optometry. He also has been a visiting professor at the Queensland University of Technology School of Optometry in Brisbane, Australia.

Joseph P. Shovlin, OD, FAAO
    Dr. Joseph P. Shovlin received his undergraduate degree from Gettysburg College and his doctor of optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where he currently serves as an adjunct faculty member. He is the director of the Contact Lens Service and optometric director of the Laser Vision Center at the Northeastern Eye Institute in Scranton, Pennsylvania. 
    He is a distinguished practitioner of the National Academy of Practice, a past chair of the Contact Lens Section of the American Optometric Association and a diplomate and vice chair of the Section on Cornea and Contact Lenses of the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. Shovlin has recently served as a voting member and consultant of the Ophthalmic Devices Advisory Panel of the Center for Devices and Radiological Health, the Food and Drug Administration and a member of the National Advisory Eye Council of the National Eye Institute, the National Institutes of Health. He is a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the American Public Health Association and an associate member of the International Society of Refractive Surgery. Currently, he serves as a member of the scientific advisory committee of the Pennsylvania Lion's Sight Conservation and Eye Research Foundation, the advisory board of data.site/Medical Information Systems and a principal investigator for the Collaborative Longitudinal Evaluation of Keratoconus (CLEK) Study sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.
    Dr. Shovlin serves on the editorial board of Review of Optometry (associate clinical editor, contributing editor), Contact Lens Spectrum (consulting editor), Primary Care Optometry News (editorial advisory board), Optometry Clinics (journal review board) and the Journal of the American Optometric Association (journal review board). He is a referee for Optometry and Vision Science, the Journal of the American Optometric Association and the International Contact Lens Clinic. He has held editorial board appointments to International Contact Lens Clinic (contributing editor), Making Contact (contributing editor), EyeWear (consulting editor), Cross Section, the official newsletter of the Sections of the American Optometric Association (contributing editor) and Optometric Management (contributing editor). He has several publications to his credit including twenty chapters in fifteen different clinical textbooks and over 200 short articles, abstracts and major publications

J. James Thimons, OD
    Dr. J. James Thimons, a 1978 graduate of the Ohio State University, currently serves as Executive Director of TLC Connecticut and Medical Director of Ophthalmic Consultants of Connecticut.  He has served as Chief, Optometry Service, VA Medical Center, Chillicothe, Ohio, Director, OMNI Eye Services, Fairfax, VA and most recently Directed the Glaucoma Institute in New York City.  He has lectured and published extensively in the area of Cornea, External Disease and Glaucoma.
